Amazon FBA vs. Shopify

Amazon FBA vs. Shopify is one of those neverending debates. The reality is that both business models are great and whichever one you will see more success with depends on your approach to business and the pros/cons of each model.

Amazon FBA

Pros:

  • Paid marketing not as intensive
  • Can sell a more generic product
  • Product can sell more consistently due to Amazon storefront

Cons: 

  • HUGE upfront investment (minimum of $1,000 necessary)
  • Dependent on Amazon and at their mercy
  • Longer to get started (waiting for inventory to arrive from China)

Shopify

Pros:

  • You own the website, store, brand and customer
  • Quicker to see results — can build a store and make a sale the same day!
  • Lower upfront investment if dropshipping ($29/mo for Shopify and can get by with $300 advertising spend)

Cons: 

  • Need a sexy winning product
  • Paid marketing very intensive (facebook ads, google shopping, etc.)
  • Not as consistent as Amazon unless you are a large Brand
